Picking the right contact lenses

Picking the right contact lenses

Toric soft contact lenses have different powers in different meridians of the lens to correct astigmatism as well as nearsightedness or farsightedness.

Types of contacts are not all the same. They are available in different forms, designed to meet different purposes. These forms can range from their “modality,” or how often you change the contacts—say, daily, every two weeks, or monthly. They also fit different needs, such as contacts for astigmatism, contacts for nearsightedness, and more.

Contact lenses come in different strengths or “diopters.” If you wear contacts, take a look at their box or your prescription. You’ll see either plus or minus signs, followed by numbers. Without getting too in-depth, these convey the shape of the lenses. Different shapes correct different vision problems. Extra info about Korean contact lenses

Daily wear is not to be confused with daily disposable. Daily disposable refers to contact lenses that are meant to be used once and discarded daily. Daily wear is worn daily but not suitable for overnight wear and must be cleaned and removed before sleep. Wearing lenses overnight increases the lens wearer’s risk for eye disease. Therefore lenses are often replaced on a weekly or monthly basis.

Proper cleaning and handling of weekly and monthly lenses is critical to keeping eyes healthy. Lens cleaning is not just an option, but a must in the world of weekly or monthly contacts due to the health risks bacterial deposits may present.

Bifocal or multifocal contact lenses. These lenses, which are available in both soft and hard varieties, can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism in combination with age-related loss of close-up vision (presbyopia).
Tinted contact lenses. Some contact lenses are tinted, either for cosmetic or therapeutic purposes. Tinting can enhance contrast or color perception and help compensate for colorblindness, for example. Avoid over-the-counter contact lenses, though. These lenses can cause eye injuries and infections.

Avoiding complications : Minimize contact with water and saliva. Remove your contact lenses before you swim or use a hot tub. Don’t put your lenses in your mouth to wet them.
